About Maegan

The real story of the book starts long before it, in the fog of early motherhood, in a season that looked like happiness from the outside but felt entirely different from the inside.

Maegan is the author of Before and After Baby, a picture book about postpartum depression that earned a starred review from Kirkus Reviews. She wrote it because her family lived it, and because we couldn’t find a book like it when we needed one most.

  • Before and After Baby follows a young child making sense of the changes that come with a new sibling- and a mother who isn’t herself. It opens a conversation about postpartum depression with honesty and gentleness, for children and the adults reading alongside them.

Maegan speaks about the book, and the experience behind it, to parent groups, public health organizations, perinatal mental health collaboratives, birthing centers, and teams across the region. Her prsesentationbs leave audiences better equipped to recognize PMADs and show up for the people in their lives who are struggling.

  • Maegan holds a Certificate in Editing from the University of Washington with a Proofreading Specialization. She is a member of the Northwest Editors Guild and SCBWI. She works on picture books, middle-grade fiction, contemporary fiction, narrative non-fiction for kids, and memoir, offering developmental editing, line editing, and proofreading with the care of a reader and the precision you’d expect from a trained editor.

  • Maegan is a Canadian ex-pat living on an island in the Salish Sea. She has been married for 27 years and has two young adult children. She is a former teacher who still believes that the right book at the right moment can change everything.

She is at work on her next books.

When she isn’t reading, writing, or editing, you can find her walking her dogs toward coffee (and a pup cup), knitting, or on a ferry.
